TWST: Do you expect significant M&A activity this year as a result?
Mr. Gailey: The lack of consolidation is one thing that has really surprised me. I thought we'd see more consolidation in 2012 than we did. We did see a couple of larger deals in Texas: Prosperity (PB) got a nice one, PlainsCapital in Dallas sold, and you also saw Encore Bank out of Houston sell. Encore got almost 2.5 times book, which is a very nice price for Encore.
Texas does have a lot of smaller community banks; I think the number is a little over 400 small community banks. Most of those banks are under $1 billion in assets, so it's hard for most of the buyers - which have a decent size to them - to really move the needle with the smaller community banks that are for sale.
I think this year you will start to see a little increase in the consolidation activity in Texas. We've already seen one deal, First Financial (FFIN) in Abilene acquire a small bank in Orange, Texas, and there is chatter about a couple of decent-sized banks coming to market for sale.
You also have two banks in Dallas which are old mutuals that hit their three-year mark - one of them has already hit the three-year mark, that's OmniAmerican (OABC) in Fort Worth. And the other one hits the three-year mark in a couple of quarters, and that's ViewPoint (VPFG) - so you do have some opportunities for this year to be a pretty good consolidation year in Texas. I expect a modest pickup, but nothing materially different than last year.
TWST: What have been the key topics or themes from the most recent quarterly earnings reports?
Mr. Gailey: In Texas, most of the banks have above-average bond portfolios; the size of the bond book relative to the balance...

Home Security Survey



 
Doors & Windows



1. Exterior doors are solid core doors that are 1 3/8 inches thick and are secured by dead-bolt locks. Dead-bolt locks must lock with a minimum bolt throw of one inch that penetrates a metal strike plate. If the door secured by the dead-bolt lock has breakable glass within 40 inches of the lock, the lock must be key operated from both sides unless prohibited by life safety codes.
2. Metal Doors are secured by dead-bolt locks as described above.
3. Double doors meet the specifications for exterior doors as listed above, have the inactive door secured by header and threshold bolts that penetrate metal strike plates, and in case of glass located within 40 inches of header and threshold bolts, have the bolts flush-mounted in the edge of the door.
4. Sliding glass doors are secured by secondary locking devices to prevent lifting and prying.
5. Dutch doors have concealed flush-bolt locking devices to interlock upper and lower halves and are secured by a dead-bolt lock as described above.
6. Garage doors are equipped with key-operated locking devices.
7. Windows are secured by auxiliary locking devices. An auxiliary locking device required by this section must include screws, wooden dowels, pinning devices, and key operated locks. In areas in which life safety codes permit, metal bars or grating. If mounted to prevent easy removal, may be substituted for auxiliary locking devices. Jalousie or louvered windows do not meet the specifications of this section unless they have metal grating mounted as provided for above.


Alarm



1. Property is equipped with an electronic burglar alarm that meets the following requirements: all exterior structure openings are contacted, the system includes an interior and exterior siren, all equipment is UL approved and is monitored by a UL approved central station, and sales, service, installation, and monitoring of the system are done in compliance with the Private Investigations and Private Security Agencies Act (Article 4413 (29bb), Vernon’s Texas Civil Statues).
If your house meets

both requirements, it will qualify for up to a 20% reduction* in your homeowner’s insurance premiums. The home security survey is a free service provided by the Friendswood Police Department.
* Although state law mandates the reductions, some insurance companies are exempt and offer different percent discounts than listed above. Please ask your insurance agent to confirm the discount.
