Some of us are having to fight the construction traffic in our own neighborhood but now our commute could be affected as well. So be prepared and take alternate routes if you can do so. Please see below.
Construction on IH45 - Gulf Freeway at Calder will close both north and southbound main lanes and frontage roads during the weekend of August 7-9, 2009. Beginning Friday, August 7 at 7:00 p.m., the IH45 northbound frontage road will be closed at Calder along with the east and westbound approaches to the Calder overpass. Crews will then close the IH45.northbound main lanes at 9:00 p. m. On Saturday at 6:00 a.m., the IH 45 southbound frontage road and main lanes will be closed. The northbound
main lanes and frontage road will be opened to traffic Saturday by 10:00 p.m., and the southbound main lanes and frontage road will be opened Sunday by 5:00 p.m.
During the closures, motorists traveling IH45 northbound will be detoured to the Calder exit, turn right on Calder and then left to the northbound frontage road. Motorists traveling IH45 southbound will be detoured to the Calder exit, follow the exit ramp around Calder, then return to southbound frontage road. Local law enforcement will be providing traffic control during the closures.
These closures are necessary so that crews can safely demolish the existing Calder overpass. The work is associated with the construction of an at-grade crossing of SH 96 at the IH45 fly over, just south of Calder. W. W. Webber, Inc., was awarded the $21 million project in July 2007. The project is estimated to be complete March 2010.
Scheduled lane closure information is available on the Houston TranStar website at ww.houstontranstar.org. All closures are subject to change due to inclement weather.
